William (Bill) Quimby

January 20, 1928 — November 27, 2010

Caribou-William “Bill” Quimby 82 went home to be with his Lord and Savior November 27, 2010 at Caribou. He was born in Caribou January 20, 1928 the son of the late Albert and Lilly (Paterson) Quimby. Mr. Quimby served with the US Air Force and was a retired carpenter having been employed by the civil service at Loring Air Force Base for many years. He married Gertrude Gagnon and she predeceased him in 1998. Mr. Quimby was a lay minister for many years and helped pioneer and open several area Pentecostal Churchs in the area. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Bill volunteered many hours and the Caribou Nursing Home and enjoyed singing at numerous events there. Bill loved to sing and had copy written several songs that he had composed. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and he will be remembered by many for his great hunting and fishing stories. Bill loved to talk and socialize and it was not uncommon for him to be gone from home for several hours just to “run to the store”. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his two daughters and a son in law: Jenni and Joseph Beles of Westmont, Ill. And Julia Quimby of Caribou. One brother David Quimby of Caribou. Two sisters; Evelyn Michaud and Mable Wilcox both of Caribou. Two grandchildren; Matthew and Rachael Beles. Many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 7-9 pm Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday December 1, 2010 from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Jewell, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Following the service all are invited to the Bethel Pentecostal Church for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr Quimby may do so through the Caribou Nursing Home Memorial Fund.
