Limestone - Carolyn Faith Wadman - Born in Boston, MA the daughter of F. Cortland Wadman and Ruth Branscombe. Survived by her brother, Richard C. Wadman of Cambridge, MA, and Limestone, ME, and pre-deceased by her sister Jean M. Wadman of Rye NH.
She received a BFA degree from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA. A lifelong learner, she did graduate studies in Art at the Pratt Institute, NY where she received an MFA degree. Also studied at Herron School of Art, University of New Hampshire, Haystack School of Crafts at Deer Isle and attended numerous workshops in glassblowing, printmaking, wood working, weaving, bookmaking, and jewelry.
She furthered her career through Graduate Work in Education at Harvard University, Boston University, Univ. of New Hampshire, Alaska Methodist University, UMPI, Bowdoin, Bates and Colby Colleges.
Carolyn taught Art in Hampton NH for 2 years, then in Limestone, Maine for more than 20 years. She worked in the US Army Service Clubs in Europe for over 2 years, and again in Alaska as ‘Post Crafts Director where she taught classes to both military families and dependants. She was instrumental in designing an arts and crafts facility at Fort Gordon, GA, and also worked at Fort Hamilton in NY.
Moving to Limestone, Maine to be near family, she introduced art classes in the high school and advocated for a fine arts requirement for high school graduation.
Carolyn described her work as an artist as being ‘original, not from photographs. It is done from life, imagination, and inspiration’. She felt it was important to teach skills in art, but also to provide students with the opportunities to explore and remain open to unknown territories.
‘Few will make a living as artists.. but all will become consumers.’
