Vespa L. Johnson 86, wife of the late Harry F. Johnson passed away Wednesday morning April 3, 2013 at a Caribou Nursing Facility after a brief illness. She was born January 23, 1927 in Perham the daughter of Walter W. and Myrtle (Conroy) Wilcox. A graduate of Caribou High School class of 1945, she was married to Harry F. Johnson and had been employed by Tater-State Washburn for 19 years, the Caribou School Department as a cook for several years, and for a number of years had been coordinator of the RSVP. She was a member of the Perham Baptist Church for many years and also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Coldvail Chapter, Washburn. She had been the leader of the food and clothing program for the Perham extension and was active in her church. Vespa was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. She created beautiful wedding cakes for many area couples over the years and was an accomplished seamstress and had reupholstered the church pews. She could always be depended on to obtain anything required by her church and even helped prepare costumes for church programs. Mrs. Johnson was an avid outdoors person. Enjoying hunting, fishing and camping in the North Maine Woods with family and friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Harry, on February 26, 2002. One brother Keith W. Wilcox, her brother-in-law Howard Johnson, one sister-in-law Verna Curtis. She is survived by her daughter Shari A. Clegg of Presque Isle, one sister-in-law Ella Gervais of Michigan, three grandchildren, Jeremy Clegg of Wichita, KS, Joshua Clegg of Rochester, NY, and Joellen Clegg of Vernon, TX. One great-grandson Andrew Stephen Michael Lagasse of Washburn. Several nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by a special cousin Norma Sperrey and her husband Ronald of Washburn. Friends may call Friday April 5, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday April 6, 2013 at 1 pm at the Perham Baptist Church with the Reverend David Goupille officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service in the church reception area. Spring interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Perham.
