Vaughn (Bud) BrewerCaribou-Vaughn “Bud” Brewer 86, died December 7, 2013 at Bangor following a brief illness. He was born in Crouseville September 18, 1927 the son of the late Harry and Mary (DeLong) Brewer. Mr. Brewer served with the US Army during WW II and served a past commander of the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion and was also a member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW . He married Dathaline “Day” Brewer August 6, 1952 and she predeceased him November 26, 2012 after sixty years of marriage. Mr. Brewer served as the maintenance supervisor for Maine Public Service Company for many years. He was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, serving as church deacon, was past King Lion of the Caribou Lions Club, was a member of the Caribou RSVP and served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for a number of years. Bud also served as past president of the Caribou Historical Society, was a member of Caribou Lodge #170 AF & AM., and volunteered at the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen. During this Christmas season many will remember Bud and Day as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, as they brought many a smile to young and old alike during the Christmas season in Caribou. Mr. Brewer is survived by his son Thomas Brewer and wife Mary of Presque Isle, his daughters; Barbara Davis of Caribou and Karen Kovach and husband Dennis of Woodland. One brother Isaac Brewer. His grandchildren; Kylie Davis Hessert and husband Anthony, Adam Davis, Joshua and Jessika Kovach and Brandon Brewer. Two great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. His special four legged companion Jackamo as well as his many friends at McDonalds, Leo’s and Burger King. Mr. Brewer was predeceased by a grandson Garrett Brewer. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 6-8 pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday December 12, 2013 from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Heald and Rev. Ron Rosser, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Extension Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Brewer may do so through a “Special Santa” fund to be established to provide annual benefits for needy children in the Caribou area at Christmas.
