PRESQUE ISLE – Sterling Henry Cyr, 77, son of Henry and Rella (Roy) Cyr left his earthly Journey, Sunday, August 21, 2016 for an eternal life after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Beloved father of Karen, Sterling was fortunate to find love again with his constant companion, Shirley Wasson Drost, after the death of his dear wife of 38 years, Leota Henderson Cyr. Sterling retired from SAD 20 in 2003 after 15 wonderful years as custodian and bus driver. Sterling was honored with MSAD 20’s Granite Apple Award and was an honorary member of Paul Lockhart Post 6187 VFW. Other hats Sterling wore include Aroostook Centre Mall Santa Claus, Peterson’s Motor Mart, Bookkeeper & mechanic at Cyr Brothers Garage and Shipping, Receiving & Finishing Room Foreman for Viner Brothers Aroostook Shoe of Presque Isle. Including his parents, Sterling was predeceased by his wife, Leota, a sister, Laura Cyr McGee, brothers-in-law, Burton Henderson & Darrell Doody, and his dearly loved mother-in-law, Rowena Henderson. In addition to Karen and Shirley, Sterling is survived by his son-in-law, Gary Milton; grandsons who both followed his lead and joined the 152nd field artillery of the Maine Army National Guard, Gary Allen Milton Jr. & wife Jessica, of Fort Fairfield, & Seth Henry Milton & wife Amanda, of Unity, four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Daxon Milton and Idella and Celia Brugger. Sterling is also survived by siblings, Beverly & Keith McBurnie; Marcia & Rich Mencarini; Galen Thomas Cyr; Sherry & Terry Hannan; Ben & Linda Henderson; Vaida Doody; Gary & Christine Henderson; Wanetta Henderson Busse; and Celia & Howard Huber. The McGee children: Lori, Carla, Danny and Pam always will have a special piece of Uncle Sterling’s heart, as well as his God daughter, Stacey Cyr Giberson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sterling’s love for his second family is not to be unrecognized, Ted & Joyce Doody, Carolyn & Peter Michaud, Brenda & Ronnie Ruest, Hope Doughty, Charles, Randy & Wendy and Ricky & Marianne Wasson. Shirley’s children, Roland “Spike” & Becky Drost, Sue & Butch O’Clair and Dale & Leah Drost. At Sterling’s request, there will be no calling hours but rather a celebration of his life, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at noon at the Paul Lockhart Post 6187 VFW, Fort Fairfield.
