Shirley (Ouellette) Simon WOOLAND– Shirley (Ouellette) Simon, 73 returned home to her Father in Heaven at noon on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in St. John, on March 20, 1937 the daughter of the late Adolphe Sr. and Flossie (Sturgeon) Ouellette. She is survived by her loving husband Roger of 57 years. She was a devoted mother to all who entered their home, but her natural born children were, Roger James, Ronald Steven, Carrie Simon-Strelka, Franklin Dale, & Shelia Simon-Aleman. Her special foster child of 30 years is Sylvio Madore of Woodland. She is survived by her 11 sisters & brothers, Doris Thibodeau of Caribou, Thelma Kelly of New Sweden, Pauline Nadeau of St. Francis, Adolphe Ouellette Jr. of Colbert, WA, Franklin Ouellette of Bangor, Bertha Hotchkiss of Tucson, AZ, Verna O'Leary of Caribou, Leola Onerato of Kenduskeag, Thomas Pelletier of St. Francis, Gordon Pelletier of Hermon & Roland Soucie of Allagash. She was predeceased by Richard & Patrick Ouellette, Mable Albert & Sadie Plourde.A special very "Thank you" to Jamie, Sheila & Stephanie for their loving care of Mom during her final days with us. Her loving grandchildren are: Jamie, Keith, Levi, Jessica, Heather, Cher, Harley, Ashley, Carli, Sarah, Frankie D, Victoria & Nathan. She had 32 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Many nieces and nephewsSome of her life accomplishments were being the first woman to hold a commercial drivers license in Maine and also the first female school bus driver at Woodland Consolidated School in Woodland, ME. She was a lifetime member of the VFW in Caribou, and a member of the former Elizabeth Chapter, Eastern Star. Shirley also volunteered for the Battered Woman's Shelter and the Crisis Hotline. She has been a member of Caribou United Baptist Church for 47 years and also attended Abundant Life Mission in Woodland, ME. Having been a truck driver's wife & driver herself, she held a special place in her heart for truck drivers and their families. Her life mission was always caring for others needs above her own.Funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday September 24, 2010 from the Caribou United Baptist Church 74 High St. Caribou. Calling hours will be from 11:00 am until time of services. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Following the services all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the church fellowship hall. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Shirley may do so through the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen. Envelopes will be available at the church
