CARIBOU-Ruby Pike Sands, 91 passed away peacefully at the Caribou Nursing Home October 30, 2011 with her husband of 71 years by her side. Ruby was born on July 22, 1920 at Woodland, the daughter of the late Eugene and Edna (Russell) Pike and was the fifth of ten children. Ruby went to school at the one room school house on the Langley Road in Woodland and graduated from Caribou High School, class of 1938. She married Herbert Sands in 1940. She raised her family on the family farm and enjoyed everything about it, especially the many get togethers with her family and friends. She enjoyed writing poetry, cooking, camping, traveling, snowmobiling, and in her later years, her daily afternoon trips with Herbert to McDonalds. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washburn and also carried on Gods work as superintendent of Carson Union Church for a number of years, where she touched the lives of so many. Surviving in addition to her husband, Herbert of Caribou are two sons and daughters in law: Willard and Sherry Sands and Duane and Cecile Sands all of Caribou, two daughters in-law Fern Sands of Washburn and Sue Sands of Woodland. Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren, One sister and brother in law Blanche and David Bartlett of Woodland, one brother and sister in law Eugene and Trudy Pike Jr of Massachusetts. Two sisters in law Elnor Pike and Louise Pike, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs Sands was predeceased by a son, Berton, three sisters, Pauline Thomas, Bernice Parker and Elvie Bubar and four brothers, Charles, Allen, Leander, and Ben Pike. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 10:00 am Saturday November 5th 2011 until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon from the funeral home with Rev. Otto Palmer, officiating. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs Sands may do so through the Caribou Nursing Home activities fund or the Washburn Baptist Church memorial fund. The family extends a special thank you to all of the staff at Caribou Nursing and Rehab for the fine care and friendship given to Ruby during her stay there.
