Rollan Walker

June 29, 1930 — June 2, 2014

Presque Isle -Rollan W. Walker, 83, passed away June 2, 2014 after a period of declining health. He was born on June 26, 1930 in Madison, Virginia the son of Rollan Ettinger and Mary Willis Walker who nicknamed him “Mann”. He and his wife Betty were married on December 5, 1950 and made Presque Isle and Aroostook County their permanent home when he was transferred to Loring Air Force Base from Long Island, New York in 1967. Rollan retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service to our Country and became a New York Life Insurance Agent and has always been willing to help his clients as the need arose. Whether you knew Rollan in the Air Force, as a neighbor, insurance agent, colleague, snowmobiler or friend, he was a trusted friend who provided help and encouragement unselfishly and generously. Helping his clients throughout Aroostook County was his passion including his routine visits to the “Valley”. Rollan enjoyed traveling all over the world with Betty, as well as snowmobiling, gardening and many other outside activities. He was a member of the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, very active in the Loring Kiwanis Club, Maine Loring Association and member of the U.S. Air Force Retiree Council, representing 13 states. He was associated with a number of snow sled clubs and achieved many insurance awards including National Quality Award, President’s Council, LUTCF distinction and Agent of the Year in Maine for 1988. Rollan loved his family and is survived by his wife of 63 1/2 years, Betty A. (Cole) Walker, their son Rollan T. Walker and his wife Rhonda of Hermon and grandchildren Rollan Thomas Walker and wife Candice; Scott C Walker and companion Courtney Shorey; Emily Walker; son-in-law Kenneth Simpson and step granddaughter Kristen Thompson. He is also survived by great grandchildren Tyler, Brielle, McKinley and Ivy along with step great grandchildren Austin, Emma and Sylvia; a brother Willie E. Walker and three sisters Arlene Jacobs, Mary E. Lohr and Emily Shotwell. Rollan was predeceased by his parents, daughter, M. Dawn Simpson in 2007, sister Ida Banks Bell and brother James S. Walker. Rollan will be remembered by his longtime friend and business partner, Barb Leach and her family as well a close friend JoAnn Hubbard. Rollan will also be missed by his dog Prince. The family would like to thank all who visited Rollan, the staff at TAMC, the Caribou Veteran’s Home and all who cared for him over the past two years. A Memorial service followed by a reception will be held 3:00pm Sunday June 15th 2014 at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church, 79 Fleetwood St., Presque Isle with Rev. Ernie Farrar and Pastor, Ellen Cleaves officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00pm Sunday until time of services at the church. A private interment will follow at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
