Caribou - Roland F Thompson, 89, died peacefully July 11, 2021, surrounded by family at his residence in Caribou Maine following a long-term illness. He was born in Washburn, Maine on July 15,1931, the son of the late Grover and Velma (Hanson) Thompson. Mr. Thompson worked throughout his life juggling many trades, from serving in the Army during the Korean War, to working at Wrights Machine Company in Worcester Massachusetts for many years. He often talked about his time in the Army serving overseas, he enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors, especially apple picking during the season with his granddaughter, Mariah, who he called “the apple of his eye”. He enjoyed collecting coins, attending Bingo nights, being a life member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW, and going to the horse and dog tracks with his children. He loved giving nicknames to his family members, Nicholas would be called Nickle, Zach would be called Jack (the Ripper), and Carl would be called Carlos. Mr. Thompson is survived by his children Carl Stafford Sr. (Putnam, Connecticut), David Cummings (Arizona), Greg Cummings (Framingham, Massachusetts), Roland Thompson (Caribou, Maine), Cindy Johnson (Sangerville, Maine), Lisa Cyr (Bangor, Maine), MaryAnn Mink (Caribou, Maine). Grandchildren, Wayne Shackett (Perham, Maine), Michael Shackett (Michigan), Carl J Stafford Jr. (Mapleton, Maine), Nicholas Stafford (Michigan), Michael DesRosiers (Putnam, Connecticut), Bonnie-Lee DesRosiers (Chattanooga, Tennessee), Colby Johnson (Sangerville, Maine), Connor Johnson (Sangerville, Maine), Kyle Engstrom (Bangor, Maine), Mariah Mink (Caribou, Maine), Michael Mink Jr. (Caribou, Maine), Nathaniel Cummings (Arizona), Kelly Cummings (Worcester, Massachusetts), David Cummings (Worcester, Massachusetts), several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, his faithful pet, Fifi Mink (Caribou, Maine), and lastly his compassionate PSS caregiver, who he held close to his heart, Jennifer Theriault (Hamlin, Maine). Mr. Thompson is predeceased by his wife, Marion Stafford Thompson, a son Roland Thompson, four brothers John, Grover, George, Perley, and Ellsworth Thompson, four sisters Alberta Tuttle, Rhoda Langley, Amy Wilcox, and Mary Thompson. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, 12 pm-1pm., Thursday, July 15th, 2021 where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Matt Palmer officiating. Interment will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou, Maine 04736 with a family and friends get together afterwards at 9389 Van Buren Road Caribou, Maine.
