Richard (Popeye) Chapman

Caribou-Richard “Popeye” Chapman, 72 died January 2, 2013 at Caribou following a period of declining health. He was born in Caribou May 7, 1940 the son of the late Dow and Fannie (Wright) Chapman. He was a 1959 graduate of Caribou High School and on August 22, 1959 he married Patricia “Patsy” Cowett. Mr. Chapman was employed by several area potato growers and the Maine Department of Transportation for a number of years. Popeye always had a smile and a wave for all he met and he loved to tease as well as be teased. Surviving in addition to his wife of over 53 years, Patsy of Caribou are his children; Raymond and Brandy Chapman of Savona, N.Y., Randy Chapman of East Hartford, Ct., Rodney Chapman of Holden, Richard Chapman and Matt of Palm Springs, CA., Ricky Chapman and Karen of Caribou, Ryan Chapman and Sue of Scarborough,Raeleen Chapman of Caribou, Rhonda Chapman and Ron of Portland and Rebecca Dionne of Topsham. Three sisters Mona Belanger of Caribou, Authora Donaldson of Connecticut, and Mavis Byram of Old Town. One brother Murray Chapman of St. Albans. His grandchildren; Todd, Sierra, Trenton, Rodney Jr., Ryan, Cassie, Cammie, Derek, Jacob, Caleb, and Lauren. One great grandchild Winter Ruby. Many nieces and nephews. Mr. Chapman was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Graydon, Maynard, Gerald, Donald , Phyllis, Patricia, Captolla, and La. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 2-4 & 6-8 pm Sunday. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday January 7, 2013 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Cary Medical Center, Borderview Manor, Caribou Rehab and Nursing and his family at the “Clinic” for their loving and compassionate care.
