Caribou- Richard Charles Hatch, 88, passed away on February 24, 2025, at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle following a brief illness. Richard was born in Caribou, May 5, 1936 the son of Charles and Margaret (Mooers) Hatch. A lifelong resident of Caribou, Richard graduated as the valedictorian from Caribou High School in 1955 and went on to graduate from Bowdoin College in 1959. Following college, Richard returned to Caribou where he dedicated his career to Maine Public Services, retiring after many years of service. He was also a member of the Caribou Jaycees. Richard was a faithful member of St. Luke's Church in Caribou and St. John’s Church in Presque Isle, where he made an indelible mark, serving on the vestry, as treasurer, and as the church organist for several decades. Outside of his professional and community commitments, Richard enjoyed time spent at the camp his father built at Cross Lake, where he boated, four-wheeled in the summer and snowmobiled in the winter. His enjoyment of the outdoors extended to meticulous care of his lawn and garden. A passionate reader, Richard also took daily walks and enjoyed a good cup of black coffee. A man of patience, Richard was always ready to lend a hand and offer his time to others. His kindness and generosity touched those who knew him.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty (Jones) Hatch of Caribou, as well as daughter Barbara Miller (Ed) of Portsmouth, NH, granddaughters Anne Tiernan Moronta (Guillermo) of Marion, Massachusetts and Emily Tiernan of New York and great granddaughters Elizabeth and Madeline Moronta, and Mary Brennan.
