Richard Lloyd Bennett, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025 in Presque Isle, at the age of 83, from complications related to multiple myeloma. He was born on August 12, 1941 in Caribou, the son of the late Phillip and Helen (Bell) Bennett. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Greta (Peterson) Bennett, and his loving children, Jonathan Bennett and Jennifer Adrian, along with their spouses, Mrs. Sherri Bennett and Dr. Brian Adrian.

Richard was a proud and cherished grandfather to Austin Bennett, John Gregg, and Emily Gregg, each of whom brought great joy and pride to his life. Richard was also a beloved brother to Reginald “Reg” Bennett and wife April who both survive him, and to Phillip Bennett Jr. whom he was predeceased by.

A proud veteran, Richard served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1969, earning the rank of Captain. After receiving his commission through the ROTC program, he went on to serve as a tank commander and communications instructor at the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His dedication to leadership and training left a lasting impact on those he mentored.

After completing his military service, Richard began a long and distinguished career with the DuPont Company, where he served for 33 years in a variety of roles. His work took him to several locations across the country, including Rochester, NY, where he began as a Plant Accountant and Supervisor; Newport, DE, as an Accounting Superintendent; and Brevard, NC, where he served as Plant Accounting Superintendent. He later held key roles in Jonesboro, AR, overseeing Plant Accounting, Data Processing, and even offering financial guidance to the city’s Little Theatre Group—reflecting both his professional expertise and his love of community.

After retiring from DuPont, he continued to apply his talents for another seven years with Endo Pharmaceuticals.

Richard will be remembered most for the deep love he had for his family and the selfless way he cared for those around him—especially his beloved wife, Greta. He found great joy in time spent on his boat at Cross Lake, Maine, where the water and woods brought him peace. At home on the farm, he enjoyed tinkering, keeping the land in good order, and maintaining trails through the forest on his ATV. His quiet acts of service and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors which will held in the West Jemtland Cemetery, New Sweden, on May 17, 2025 at 1PM. Arrangements by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
