Rachel F. Adams, 78 passed away from heart disease on May 23, 2024 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. She was born on September 19, 1945 in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Louis and Jeannine Cyr. Rachel grew up on a farm in St. David and graduated from UMFK. During her professional career, she taught in the Limestone School System for 31 years, and after retirement, substitute taught whenever she was called upon. She was very active in her community and church, teaching Sunday School and working faithfully as an Eucharistic Minister. In 2003, she was honored as “Hometown Hero” for her numerous contributions to her community.
Rachel’s passion was reading, and she had been a significant contributor to “Young Authors” and the “Aroostook Right to Read” programs for many years. Another passion was gardening, and she took pride in growing a beautiful vegetable garden and sharing her bounty. A highlight of the summer was picking berries and sharing those as well. She had a knack for finding four-leaf clovers and collecting them to give to friends for good luck. Rachel liked to say that her three favorite words were “REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE”. Her favorite song was Rainbow Connection by the Muppets.
Rachel was known as a kind hearted, unselfish person who put the needs of others first. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, who was the joy of her life. She was a cancer survivor who counted her blessings and who always looked on the bright side.
Rachel was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Adams, and sister, Angeline. She is survived by sons, Philip and Timothy Adams of Limestone, granddaughter, Aubri Adams of Castle Hill, sisters, Claudette Wright of Burlington, Ontario, Evelyn Cyr of Presque Isle, Micheline Dahlgren and her husband Michael of Bangor, brothers, Philip Cyr of Madawaska, Daniel Cyr and wife Shelley of St. David, five nephews, seven nieces and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10AM at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Those who wish to contribute in memory of Rachel are asked to do so care of Micheline Dahlgren, 1022 Kenduskeag Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401, to establish a college fund for her granddaughter, Aubri.
