Richard R. Russell

Richard R. Russell, passed away May 11, 2023 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was born in Caribou, Maine, March 1, 1944 the son of Merle K. and Delma E. (Porter) Russell. He was educated in the Woodland Schools and graduated from Washburn High School in 1961. He graduated from Husson University in Bangor, Maine in 1965 and took several graduate courses at New England area colleges and universities.

Early in his career he was a high school teacher in Vermont and Massachusetts. He worked for a short period of time as a corporate controller in the world of manufacturing and subsequently worked for 22 years for the NHHEAF Network of Organizations in Concord, New Hampshire as their Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer retiring in February 2008.

He was a member and Past Master of Huntington-Federal Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Russell, Massachusetts and a member of the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Springfield, Massachusetts. He was also a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Concord, New Hampshire.

Between 1990 and 1995 he owned Motley and Friends, a gift shop in Woodstock, Vermont. Beginning in 1975 he began traveling throughout the world saying that there were just too many interesting places to see and explore. He ultimately visited all 7 continents. Many times he would say that Antarctica for its remoteness and sheer beauty provided the most valuable experience.

He is survived by his brother Peter of The Villages, Florida; his sister, Pearl, of Waco, Texas; and his sister Merleen of Collinsville, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.

After retirement he enjoyed volunteering for the Granite State Ambassadors primarily at the visitor center at Manchester Boston Regional Airport and as a docent for the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire conducting tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House and volunteering in their gift shop.

In 2014 he relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC. He soon began volunteering at Brookgreen Gardens and at Myrtle Beach International Airport. He really enjoyed the continued interaction with people. He also became a member of the Myrtle Beach PrimeTimer’s and ultimately became the treasurer of the organization for 2 years. He really enjoyed all of the friendship and activities that PrimeTimer’s offered to him. He made many great friends.
