Caribou

Caribou – Philip D. Doody, 97, died October 13, 2024 at Caribou. he was born in Caribou, March 19, 1927 and was raised by his mother Esther Doody Theriault and his grandmother Mariah Doody. Philip attended school in a one room school house, and when he was in 8th grade decided to join the Army. The recruiter wouldn’t let him join immediately, but as soon as he turned 18, he proudly joined the United States Army and found himself headed for Germany. Philip served in World War II, and had many unique assignments. As a result of one of these assignments, he was able to attend the Nuremberg Trials. He was a charter member of the Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 VFW. While working as an oil truck delivery driver, he met the love of his life Beatrice Gahagan, and they wed on July 20, 1949. Together Beatrice and Phil enjoyed 62 years of marriage before her death in 2011. He was also employed as a boiler operator at Potato Service as well as at Loring Air Force Base for a number of years, as well as owning a sharpening business. Philip was a past member of the Caribou Police Department, served with the Caribou Fire Department from 1956 to 1958, and was inducted as an honorary member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department in 2019. Phil loved hunting and was also an avid fisherman. 

Philip was predeceased by his mother, his wife, and by a son Galen Doody. He is survived by his daughters, Laura Lee Doody of Florida , and Donna Fields and husband Brian of Caribou, three grandchildren, Chris Otis, Ben Fields, and Leslie Otto, great-grandchildren, Georgiana Fields, Caitlin Fields, Henrik Otto, Angelina Otis, and Logan Otis. 

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 12 noon until time of services which will be held at 1PM with Rev. David Goupille officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the VFW. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
