Verne B. Mckenney

Caribou – Verne B. McKenney, 84, died October 5, 2023, at the Aroostook House of Comfort, Presque Isle, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fort Fairfield, December 21, 1938, the son of the late Wendall and Dorothy (Ballard) McKenney. He attended Limestone Schools and was a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. He married Patsy Bouchard August 24, 1957. He was then hired in 1959 as a foot patrol officer. Buck retired in 1987 as Police Chief for the City of Caribou. In 1976 Chief McKenney was honored by being voted Police Chief of the year by the Maine Chiefs of Police Association. Mr. McKenney also served on the Caribou City Council for a number of years, including several terms as mayor.  He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was an avid golfer. Surviving in addition to Patsy, his wife of over 66 years, are his three daughters, Susan Keaton and husband Michael of Caribou, Sandra Bouchard and husband Brian of Woodland, and Sherrill Campbell and husband David of Caribou. Also surviving are one brother, Thomas McKenney and wife Patricia of Wells, one sister Judith Ann Leighton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-children, several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
