CARIBOU – Mary Lou (Wyman) Ouellette, 96, went peacefully to be with the Lord January 18, 2024 at her Caribou residence. She was born in Caribou, October 7, 1927, the daughter of Roy John and Jennie Lynn (McCarty) Wyman. Mary attended school in Caribou, and was a 1945 graduate of Caribou High School. Following graduation, she worked at Skates Drug Store before she married Harold J. Ouellette on December 4, 1952. Following her marriage, Mary worked for Birdseye Foods and the Caribou High School Library. Mary and Harold had a farm and she was a devoted farmer’s wife, mother to 5, and later a loving grandmother and great grandmother.
During her long life Mary was inspired by her faith and love for her family to share whatever she had with others. She enjoyed providing delicious food for her family through canning and by making her “famous” banana bread which would turn even non-banana lovers into a fan, she was tireless in her pursuit of fiddleheads which she would gather and haul 50 pound bags home to blanch and freeze. In childhood she survived the gloomy years of the Great Depression and her rare joy of chocolate turned into a lifelong love.
In her free moments she enjoyed admiring nature through birdwatching, and seashell collecting with her daughters on Prince Edward Island. Mary also enjoyed her trips to Marden’s with her family, puzzles, gardening, playing card games, baking and she was a devoted member of the Caribou United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her 5 children, Katharine Plourde of Limington, Jenny Young and husband Mike of Bradford, Harold Ouellette Jr. and wife Debbie of Pensacola, FL, Jayne Michaud and husband Vaughn, and Andy Ouellette and wife Kim all of Caribou, as well as 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three of her siblings, Vaughn Wyman of Florida, Linda Conant of York, PA, and Gary Wyman and wife Donna of Florida. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Harold Ouellette Sr. on June 18, 2003, ten siblings, and a grandson, Bobby Wright, and great granddaughter Tiffany.
Private graveside services will be held in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou.
