Caribou-Madelyn J. Irvine, 76 died August 2, 2011 at Caribou. She was born in Fort Fairfield October 31, 1934 the daughter of the late Renis and Angeline (Mills) LeVasseur. She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1951 and Farmington State Teachers College in 1955. On July 27, 1956, she married Hollis E. Irvine at St. Denis Parish in Fort Fairfield. Mrs. Irvine taught home economics at Lawrence High School in Fort Fairfield, and remedial reading at Fort Fairfield Jr High School. Later in life Madelyn enjoyed working at Crafts Elan in Caribou. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting, sewing, and especially quilting. But her most special times were those spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and siblings. Surviving in addition to her husband of over 55 years, Hollis of Caribou are her children; Hollis Irvine Jr and his wife Gayle of Greenwich, N.J., Angela Irvine and her partner Dr. Eric Asnis of Berlin, Vt., Andrew Irvine and his wife Elizabeth of Quinton, N.J. and Andrea Swanberg and her husband John of Caribou. Two sisters; JoAnn Dunphy and her husband Woodrow of Drews Lake and Mary Hill and her husband Ralph of Yarmouth. One brother, Gary LeVasseur and his wife Pat of Salem, N.J. Her grandchildren, Ian, Seth and Caleb Swanberg, Hollis Irvine II, Amanda, Gordon, James, Patrick and Wyatt Irvine, special family members Jason and Greg Asnis. Several nieces and nephews as well as her special friends “The Birthday Girls”. Mrs. Irvine was predeceased by her daughters Bernadette and Elizabeth Ann, a sister Jean Pipes and a brothers Renis “Sonny” LeVasseur, John LeVasseur and Peter LeVasseur. . Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 pm Friday at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou where evening prayers services will be held at 6:30 pm. Memorial services will be held 10:00 am Saturday August 6, 2011 from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery Fort Fairfield. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Irvine may do so through the Caribou Public Library or the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
