It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Madeline R. Hallett, 86, on January 21, 2024. She was born in Caribou on January 9, 1938, the daughter of Ralph and June (Foss) Wallace.
Madeline graduated from Caribou High School in 1955 and worked at RH Frost Insurance Company until she met and married Gaylin Hallett of Caribou in 1960. She resided on the Madawaska Road in Caribou where they raised their family. She was an integral part of their farming family as Gaylin grew potatoes for over 50 years.
Madeline was very devoted and involved in the lives of her children and their activities. She loved to get the family together for the holidays and had many memorable Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the family home. She also liked to travel around the country and sight see with her husband and visit family and friends in her travels. Her most recent trip was to Portland in November with her son for a memorable Thanksgiving with all her children and her grandchildren.
She was an avid reader and writer. She wrote her own mini autobiography as well as biographies of her children, husband, and parents. She enjoyed researching her family ancestry and maintained a daily journal about the day’s activities and news. She also liked to crochet and over the years made countless Afghans and baby blankets.
“Maddie” as she was known to many, was sweet, kind and a wonderful friend, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her childhood friends, adored her younger sisters and was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. Madeline was the rock of the family. She is loved dearly and will be forever missed.
In addition to her parents, Madeline was predeceased by her husband, Gaylin Hallett and one granddaughter, Danielle Hallett. She is survived by two sisters, Mavis (Wallace) Irving and Jean (Wallace) Manning and her husband Peter Manning, and four children, Alan Hallett, Robert Hallett and his wife Jenny (Pinette), Cheryl Hallett and her husband Chris Kidwell, and Lori Hallett. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; David Hallett and his wife Amber, Travis Hallett, Lauren Kidwell, Henry Kidwell, Charley Kidwell, Evan Hargesheimer and Jason Hargesheimer, one great-grandchild, Madalyn Rose Hallett and several nieces and nephews.
