CARIBOU – Lynn R. McNeal, 75, died December 27, 2020 at Bangor. He was born in Caribou, May 17, 1945 the son of the Edward and Marian (Hallett) McNeal. Lynn graduated from Caribou High School in 1963, with honors, and then attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. He married Betty Sirois on August 12, 1967. He then began his teaching career and was then drafted into the United States Air Force serving during Vietnam. He has always been a lifelong learner, earning various degrees – from bachelor’s degrees in education to a certificate of advanced studies in administration. Lynn taught in several roles throughout the Caribou School System in his 38 year career in education, starting as an algebra teacher and retiring in 2007 as the Director of the Caribou Technology Center. In addition, he also taught computer at Husson College along with case management at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Lynn served on many education related committees, including ones at the Northern Maine Technical College, Caribou School System, and on the state level. He was also a member of several professional associations for educators. Lynn was active in the community, volunteering time with AARP as a tax preparer, in Rotary, Little League, Babe Ruth, the Democratic Party and with many other local committees. Lynn enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his ATV. He loved to travel with his wife Betty and was proud of his Irish heritage, traveling to Ireland and several other European countries – and spending many hours tracing his family genealogy. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Betty McNeal of Caribou, a son, Chad McNeal and wife Jody of Caribou, a daughter, Kerri McNeal Pare and husband Mark of Saco, grandchildren, Riley, Abbiegale and Griffen McNeal, Ava and Elliot Pare, a sister, Gloria Tomlinson of Temple, TX, brothers-in-law, Mark Cyr, Kirk Cyr and significant other Lisa St. Peter, a sister-in-law, Lisa Sczuroski and husband Tim. He was predeceased by parents, brothers, and a sister.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 pm to 8 pm, Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 11 am, June 4, 2021, at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Following the service all are invited to the Caribou Inn and Convention Center for a time of followship and refreshments.
