CARIBOU - Helen Lyon Quimby, 97, passed away January 10, 2015 at an Eagle Lake Health Care Facility. She was born in Burnt Brook, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 27, 1917, the daughter of the late Bernard and Verna (Wright) Johnson. Helen lived a long life and saw many changes. She loved to read and knit which took up most of her time until she discovered golf at the age of 43. She was a lifetime member of the Caribou Country Club where she was well known for her back swing and her putting; she played golf into her late 80’s. She and her husband Joe spent their winters in Florida and made many friends there, whom she missed upon moving back to Caribou. Helen is survived by her daughter, Connie (Lyon) Ennis of Caribou; step-daughters, Kathy (Quimby) Aucoin and husband Steve and Gayla(Quimby) Beaulieu all of Litchfield; step-son, Joseph Quimby and wife Cathy of Florida; a grandson Jack Casey and wife Linda; granddaughters, Tammie Ennis and Terri Jennette and husband Mark; daughter-in-law Cynthia Lyon and a sister-in-law Leila Robertson. She is also survived by three great grand-daughters and three great grandsons as well as four great-great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Claude Lyon in 1958 and her second husband Elwood “Joe” Quimby in 2007, two sons, John and David Lyon, two brothers Norman and David Johnson and a grandson Chris Ennis. The family would like to thank all who helped in her care, including Pines Health, Ann Gahagan and her nurse Paula, Valley Healthcare, Cary Medical Center – especially “Dr. Claude”, Caribou Rehab and all of her friends there, as well as the Mercy Home in Eagle Lake where she spent her final days and received such wonderful care. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
