CARIBOU – Melvin L. Griffin, 85, passed away May 26, 2020 at Presque Isle following a period of declining health. He was born in Burlington, VT, May 2, 1935 the son of the late Francis and Anna (Underwood) Griffin. Melvin graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1954, and entered the United States Air Force directly following graduation. Mr. Griffin served in the USAF from 1954 to 1974, having numerous assignments throughout the United States and in Korea. Following his military service, he worked for Brunswick Lane’s as a bowling alley manager and for Dey Brothers as a computer programmer. Melvin was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1143, and was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Melonie Carlson of Caribou, Heidi Hicks Yarbrough of Huntsville, AL, three grandchildren, Erika Carlson of Caribou, Russell Yarbrough Jr, and Joshua Yarbrough both of Huntsville, AL, and two great-grandsons, Russell Yarbrough III and Tyler Yarbrough both of Huntsville, AL. Mr. Griffin was predeceased by his wives, a daughter, Deanna Griffin, and two siblings, Carl Griffin and Jean Biolchino. Graveside services will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, June 8, 2020 at 11 am, with Rev. Timothy Wilcox officiating.
