CARIBOU - Gloria Ann Hafford Cushman passed home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on March 31, 2019.
She was born on April 1, 1953 in Fort Kent to Audrey and Arnold Hafford and grew up in the Allagash her first ten years, then in Caribou. Gloria graduated from Caribou High School in 1971 and attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle where she was a Dean’s List student. In 1975 she met Caldon Cushman at a Bible study. They soon married and brought up three children on their farm on the Grimes Mill Road.
Gloria was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Caribou since 1965, where she taught Bible School and Good News Club for children. She also served on the Worship Committee and Mission Circle of United Parish Church in Ft. Fairfield, and attended services at Borderview Assisted Living Facility, her home since 2006.
All her life Gloria loved to visit and care for older neighbors. She took pride in her gardening, enjoyed baking, quilting, and wrote voluminous letters to family and friends. She was a lifelong advocate for mental health services for the Aroostook community, including frequent visits to the State House in Augusta.
Gloria has now joined her mother and father, her brother Nolan Hafford, and her grandson, Carter Matthew Cushman in God’s arms. She will continue to be loved and celebrated here by her husband, Caldon Cushman of Caribou, her sister, Carolyn Costello Hall of Windham, her brother Stanley Hafford of Presque Isle and her children: Dr. Joy Cushman and Dr. Michael Amey and their son Graham in Alexandria, Virginia; Naomi and Alexandr Rustikov and their sons Braden and Peter in Greenville, South Carolina; and Matthew & Crystal Cushman and their children Cheyenne, Makayla, Mary Catherine and Morgan in Florida.
The family wish to thank the nurses and volunteers of Borderview for their patient and loving care over the many years that Gloria called Borderview her home.
Graveside services will be conducted 10:30am on June 8, 2019 at the Evergreen Cemetery. Those who wish to contribute in memory of Gloria may do so through the Borderview Assisted Living Center Resident Activities Fund, 208 State Street, Van Buren, ME 04785.
