Glenna Ewing

December 2, 1931 — May 12, 2021

Washburn - Glenna A. Ewing 89, passed away on May 12, 2021 at Cary Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on December 2, 1931 in Presque Isle to Harry and Dorothy (Andrews Porter) Haines.  Glenna was a 1950 graduate of Washburn High School. She was happily married to Donald Ewing for 46 years until his passing in 2001. When they were first married, they lived in Presque Isle and then Caribou for brief periods. Otherwise, she was a life-long resident of Washburn. Her father was one of the early settlers of Washburn, and through his stories and her own experience, she was very familiar with the history of the town. She was a natural when she volunteered for the Washburn Historical Society. Glenna grew up on a farm and worked at many seasonal jobs in potato farming while raising her family. She was a hard worker. Once when picking potatoes, she ran out of tickets for her barrels because she was only provided with 100 tickets that day. She also worked at Taterstate/McCain’s food processing plant for many years. Glenna easily made many friends over the years and loved saving photographs and clipping newspaper articles whenever she discovered that one of them was mentioned. Glenna is survived by her children, Linda Ewing and husband Tim Forsman of Fairfield and Ronald Ewing of Washburn; and two grandsons and their fiancés, Jonathan Forsman and Nicole Balderrama of Pasadena, CA, and Devin Forsman and Megan Meehan of South Portland. Glenna was predeceased by her husband Donald and three sons, Ervin, Harry, and Robert Ewing.  Friends may visit with the family Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Lidstone United Methodist Church, Washburn, from 1pm until time of services which will be held at 2pm with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Extension Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Glenna may do so through the charity of their choice.
