Gladys E. Staples, 92, wife of the late Woodrow Staples died September 1, 2011. She was born at Washburn on July 8, 1919 the daughter of the late Vaughn and Laura (Plissey) Scott. Gladys was employed as a cook by the Caribou School Department as well as Cary Medical Center for a number of years. She was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mission Circle, The Golden Years Club, The Adult Fellowship and served as a church Deaconess for many years. Mrs Staples also spent many hours volunteering at Cary Medical Center. She is survived by two daughters and sons in-law: June and Harry Ward of Arkansas, and Susan and Guy Thibodeau of Caribou. Two sisters Charlene Willette of Manchester, CT., and Harriet Arculeo of Windham. A son in-law Nelson Parkinson of West Virginia. Six grandchildren, many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Staples was predeceased by her husband Woodrow in 1983, a daughter Donna Parkinson, a brother Herbert Scott, and two sisters Faye Brown and Vada Scott. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral 24 Reservoir St. Caribou 6-8 pm Saturday. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday September 4, 2011 from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. John Kiehn officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Staples may do so though the Jefferson Cary Foundation for Diabetes Education.
