Washburn-George W. Doody, 87, left his pain behind and went to be with his Lord, October 16, 2020 at his Washburn residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washburn, March 9, 1933 the son of the late Warren and Emma (Sparks) Doody. He was a graduate of Washburn High School and was a self-employed carpenter in the Washburn area for many years. George was very proud of his over 49-year affiliation and membership with the Maine Plumbers and Pipefitters Union UA 716. He married Velva Plissey, the love of his life, on January 2,1951. George truly loved and cared for his family and they will miss his visits and “secret inspections” of their homes so he could see anything that might be wrong that he could fix, a practice he also carried out at the church. He was also a lifelong active member of the Lidstone United Methodist Church where he was involved in many church committees and activities.
Surviving in addition to his wife of nearly 70 years, Velva of Washburn are his children: Stephen Doody and wife Becky of Washburn, Michael Doody and wife Judy of Hodgdon, and Pauline Cyr and husband Mike of Washburn. One brother, Richard “ Jack” Doody of Presque Isle. His beloved grandchildren: Angela LaRue and husband Christopher, Krista Putnam and husband Andrew, Jared Tapley, Kevin Doody, Heather Sherman and husband Kevin, and all of his great grandchildren: Nicholas, Lydia, Natalie, Jaden, Jason, Sydney, Danah-Rae and Olivia. Also, many special nieces and nephews including Randy Plissey. George was predeceased by brothers Robert (Bob) and Turney.
The family is forever grateful to the special nurses and staff at Valley Home Health, with their help our “GIGI” was able to remain at home. Taking care of him and never leaving his side during his final days at home were Heather Sherman, Becky Doody and Lori Buckingham. Friends may visit with the family Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Lidstone United Methodist Church, Washburn, from 10:30 am until 11:45 am.
