CARIBOU – George L. Clayton, 96, passed away April 8, 2020 at Caribou. He was born in Masardis, June 4, 1923 the son of the late Leon L. and Marion (Robinson) Clayton. Mr. Clayton served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion, as well as a life member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW. He married Phoebe Rossignol on January 28, 1955. George worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for over 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. George was an American Red Cross Lifetime Blood Donor, receiving numerous awards and recognition for his dedication. Surviving in addition to his wife of 65 years, Phoebe, of Caribou, are his children, Diana Levesque of Caribou, Karline Clark and husband Michael of Box Elder, SD, Kenneth Clayton and wife Beth, and Donald Clayton and wife Cheryl all of Caribou, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Plourde, and two siblings, Alma Lilley and Curtis Clayton. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery.
