Frank M. Harris, Jr.

CMSgt. Frank M. Harris, Jr. (retired) USAF transitioned December 9, 2020 at the age of 87, at his winter home on Wilmington Island, Savannah, GA, in the arms of the love of his life, his wife of 63 years Rose Marie (Manigault) Harris. Frank was born August 5, 1933 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Frank and Lillian Harris Sr. He is a graduate of Central High School of Philadelphia, PA where he sang in the All Philadelphia City Choir.  Frank also earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth. After graduating high school, he worked a year for the US Postal Service then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Frank served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  His duty stations included Hunter AF Base Savannah, GA, Glasgow AF base Montana, Andersen AF Base, Guam, Galena Air Force Station Alaska, and Loring AF Base, Limestone, Maine. While serving at Galena he was the lay spiritual leader. Frank earned many awards, commendations and medals during military career. He was awarded the Medal of Valor with two oak leaf clusters, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device, the AF Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star Meritorious Service Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster. Frank earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Base Commander at Loring AF Base, his last duty station.  In August 1983, after 30 years of service, he retired in Caribou, ME and in later years moved between Caribou in the summer and Savannah during the winter. There was no stranger to Frank, only someone he had not met.  Throughout his life, he met many friends in the various church and civic groups he joined at all of his duty stations and during his many happy years of retirement. He was a Cub Master while stationed in Guam and a Scout master at Loring AF Base. While in Guam he also coached the Women’s softball team and won many championships with his beloved Rosie playing second base. Frank was an active member of Second Saint John Missionary Baptist Church Savannah, GA and Caribou United Baptist Church Caribou, ME.  He sang in the Caribou Living Christmas Tree and also served as president of that group for several years. He was also a member of Kiwanis International and known for his famous series of speeches “All You Wanted to Know, But Not Very Much”.  Each speech gave the history and relevance of the chosen topic.  His fellow Kiwanians looked forward to these history lessons and little known facts. To celebrate his life and cherish his memory Frank leaves behind his wife, Rose Marie, a brother, Clifford W. Harris Sr. of Philadelphia, PA, two sons, Frank M Harris and his wife Jackie of Norristown, PA, Clifford L Harris and his wife Robin of Amherst, NH, four grandchildren, Jonathan James Harris and his wife Christina of Fort Polk, LA, Zachary Paul Harris of Amherst, NH, Frank Jacob Harris and Jillian Rose Harris both of Norristown, PA, three great grandchildren Colin, Raegan and Oliver and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Frank will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:30pm at the Caribou United Baptist Church, 74 High Street, Caribou, Maine. Interment with military honors will follow in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
