Estella M. Larson

NEW SWEDEN – Estella Melvina Ware Larson, 94, wife of the late Arthur H. Larson, died September 15, 2014 at a Caribou health care facility. She was born in Hallowell, January 13, 1920 the daughter of the late Edwin and Sadie (Bailey) Ware. From a very young age, she was raised by her foster mother, Annie Lane. She eventually moved in with her foster sister, Gussie and husband while she attended school in Stockholm. She married Arthur Larson, January 22, 1938 and he predeceased her August 22, 1986. Mrs. Larson was employed by several area potato processing plants, and was also was employed as a house aid for area residents by Catholic Charities. She was a member of the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church. Estella was a great seamstress and many were the recipients of her beautiful baby sweater sets, afghans, knitted socks, mittens and sweaters. She was an avid gardener and maintained beautiful flower gardens. Estella was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Douglas Larson of New Sweden, Brian Larson and wife Barb of Lilburn, GA, Joan Levesque and husband Maurice of Westmanland and Sharon Larson and husband Scott Anderson of Fairfax Station, VA. 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Robert in 2011, a grandaughter Carrie Larson in 2007, her brother Walter Ware, half-sisters, Gladys Arsenault, Louise MacPhail and Phyllis Albee and foster sisters, Gertrude Palosky, Gussie Storkson and Lucie Adler. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 6-8pm Saturday. Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, September 21, 2014 from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will be in the New Sweden Cemetery. Following the services all are invited to Svea Hall at the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church for a time of continued fellowship and refreshements. Friends who wish to conribute in memory of Mrs. Larson may do so through th Gustaf Adolph Memorial Fund or the Caribou Pet Rescue.
