Emery J. L. Blanchette

NEW SWEDEN – Emery Joseph Lloyd Blanchette, 73, died August 18, 2022 at Lewiston following a long illness. He was born in San Diego, CA, October 19, 1948 the son of the late Damien and Dolores (Ouellette) Blanchette. Emery was a graduate of Fort Kent High School, and attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent then earning a Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Southern Maine. While attending UMFK, Emery was a Brother of the Kappa Delta Phi, Rho Chapter. He served in the United States Navy for six years during Vietnam. He took pride in the position he held in the Honor Guard for Dwight D. Eisenhower’s funeral. He married Debra Johnson on August 9, 1975. Emery taught industrial arts for many years at several area schools including Allagash, Fort Kent, Limestone Narraguagus, Katahdin, and Fort Fairfield schools. Among his many interests were, woodworking, hunting and fishing, tending to his sled dogs and attending the Can-Am Crown sled dog races. Boothbay Harbor would always hold a special place in Emery’s heart where he enjoyed spending time with his extended family. Surviving in addition to his wife of over 47 years, Debra of New Sweden, are their children, Kristina Dickerson and husband Ryan of Somerville, MA, John Blanchette of Portland, and Joshua Blanchette and wife Danielle of Presque Isle, grandchildren, Grace and Lily Larrabee, Jacob Blanchette, and Colin Dickerson, one brother, Lucien Blanchette and wife Gail of Dudley, NC, and a sister, Lorette Ayotte of Otisfield, and her children Amanda Ayotte; Billy Ayotte and wife Caroline, and a great-nephew Aiden Ayotte. Two special brother’s-in-law; Clayton and wife Norma Johnson of NH, and Wilmer and wife Bonnie Johnson of MA.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 2PM until time of services which will be held at 4PM from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Christopher E. Dare officiating. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the New Sweden Covenant Church. Private family interment will be held in the New Sweden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: C-A-N-C-E-R, PO Box 811, Presque Isle ME 04769 - In Honor of Emery Blanchette.
