Woodland-Elverine “Ellie” Stephens Thomas, 61 died May 5, 2014 at Presque Isle following a brief illness. She was born in Fond du Lac Wisconsin, February 13, 1953 the daughter of the late Gene and Loretta (Kelley) Stephens. She was a graduate of Mt. View High School and was employed as a manager at First Technology in Caribou for a number of years. She was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the American Baptist Women’s group, the Robinson Mission Circle, and taught Sunday school. Ellie was very involved with mission work and made numerous mission trips to countries all over the world. She was a volunteer at Cary Medical Center where she knitted many baby blankets for the nursery, as well as operation Christmas Child. She married Robert Thomas June 7, 1997. Surviving in addition to her husband of Woodland are her step mother Lynne Stephens of Wales, one son and daughter in law, Gene and Kyra Flaherty of Sabattus, Her stepchildren; Robert Thomas II and wife Jackie of Oakgrove Missouri, Deborah Walo and husband Robert of Oxford. One sister, Jackie Garey and husband Mike of Mechanic Falls. Two brothers; David Stephens and wife Kathryn of Oxford and Danny Stephens of Oregon. One step sister Michelle Banville and husband John II of Wales. Her grandchildren; Molly Flaherty, Meredith, Audrey, Robert II and John Thomas, Maeve and Taylor Wood, and Eileen Walo. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 7-9 pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday May 8 2014 from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Heald, officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. Gary Johnson. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Thomas may do so through a fund at the Caribou United Baptist Church to send church youth on mission trips.
