Caribou-Elmer Dumond, 79, MSGT US Army RET. died September 30, 2012 at his Caribou residence. He was born in Green River N.B. Canada August 3, 1933 the son of the late Gilbert and Leda (Theriault) Dumond. Mr. Dumond was a graduate of Caribou High School and also a graduate of Unity College. He married Ruth Blanchette and she predeceased him in August 2010. Elmer would always say that the Army was his first love and then he met Ruth. He served with the US Army National Guard for several years and then the US Army for 22 and ½ years, retiring as Master Sergeant. Following his “retirement” He was employed at RT French in Washburn, Danny Brewer Subaru and from 1977-1994 was employed at Loring Air Force Base Civil Service, where he was a data automation technician and then served as Chief of Labor Relations. Mr. Dumond was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he was a member of the parish council, taught religious education and was also a lifetime Fourth Degree member of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW and the Henry B Pratt Post 15 American Legion. He is survived by three sons and daughters in law; Brian and Linda Dumond of Michigan, Bruce and Sun Dumond of Hawaii and Philip and Heike Dumond of Michigan. Three daughters; Jana Dumond of Woodland, Leda Dumond and spouse Loretta of Winslow and Victoria Dumond of Caribou. One brother George Dumond of Rhode Island. Three sisters; Dorothy Price of Massachusetts, Yolanda Wright of Presque Isle and Theresa Zompa of Rhode Island. Twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dumond was predeceased by his son Paul in 2010, three brothers and three sisters. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 6-8 pm Wednesday where evening prayers will be held at 6:30 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday October 4, 2012 from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church with V. Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating. Interment will be in the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery.
