Elaine Henri Haines, 60, beloved wife of Neal R. Haines, died unexpectedly December 16, 2024 at their home. Elaine was born in Van Buren, August 14, 1964 the youngest child of Gregory and Ada (Chapman) Plourde. Elaine attended Stockholm Elementary School, and graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1982. She continued her education, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1986. She married her high school sweetheart, Neal R. Haines, the youngest child of Mack and Phyllis Haines of Caribou, on August 14, 1987 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Caribou.
Elaine began her working career as a licensed social worker in August of 1986 for the Aroostook Mental Health Center and was currently employed by Healing Hearts LLC in Caribou. Elaine grew up on the family farm in Stockholm and learned to work at a young age picking potatoes, hoisting and rolling barrels, picking rocks, riding the potato planter and haying. She also enjoyed cross country skiing with family and friends, riding snowmobiles, bowling, and RVing throughout Maine. Elaine was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was a current member and past regent of the Holy Rosary Daughters of Isabella Circle Number 638. Elaine enjoyed volunteering many hours at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou.
Surviving in addition to her husband, and father, are her sisters, Colleen Newbegin (Jeff) of Derby, VT, Donna Campbell (Tom) of Stockholm, a sister-in-law, Brenda Plourde of Rainier, Oregon, a sister-in-law, Peggy Belanger of Hampden, three brothers-in-law and their wives, Steven Haines, Roger and Lynn Haines, Wayne and Carla Haines all of Caribou, fourteen nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haines was predeceased by her mother, Ada Plourde, and her brother Gregory “Bud” Plourde Jr., her in-laws Mack and Phyllis Haines and a sister-in-law, Helen Haines, and a brother-in-law, Daniel Belanger.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 2PM until 4PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Following the service, all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the church hall. Interment will be in the spring at the New Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Caribou.
