Doris J. Cyr

CARIBOU – Doris Jessie Cyr, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Caribou. She was born in Caribou, October 5, 1929 the eldest child of the late Eugene F. and Edith B. (Martin) Hitchings. Doris grew up on the family potato farm and attended the Lyndon Center Elementary School, she graduated from Caribou High School in 1948. Doris married Carroll J. Cyr, of Caribou, in 1953, and they were married for 49 years until his death in 2002.

Doris was employed at FW Woolworth and later, for many years, at J.J. Newberry. Doris also made time to volunteer at the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center. She was a lifelong member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Mission Circle, and was active in Pioneer Girls where she mentored a number of young girls. Doris enjoyed reading, and loved all animals – from barnyard chickens to the succession of cats and dogs that shared her home. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister who will be deeply missed.

Doris is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Cyr of Caribou, three brothers, David W. Hitchings of Moyock, NC, Robert E. Hitchings of North Berwick, and Gerald W. Hitchings and his wife Sherrill Marshall of Virginia Beach, VA, one sister, Nora E. Todd of Framingham, MA and her former husband David Todd of Ware, MA, four nephews and two nieces. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Lyndon Center Cemetery, Caribou.
