Darlene Louise Caverhill, a longtime resident of the Caribou area, passed away on April 3, 2024 surrounded by her close family at the age of 80. She was born April 15, 1943 the oldest daughter of Clifford and Pauline (Beety) Berry. In later years Darlene embraced the presence of her stepfather, Manny Lawrence. After receiving her Bachelors of Arts in Education at the University of Maine, Darlene taught higher levels of education in Biddeford and Brunswick. After finding the love of her life, Philip Caverhill, Darlene and her husband Enjoyed a military assignment in Munich, Germany for one and a half years. This time was spent creating very fond memories of Europe. Returning to the United States, Darlene and Phil settled in Caribou. Darlene continued her career teaching third grade in Woodland for 32 years. Inspired by the love of children, Darlene along with her husband introduced and maintained the physical education program at the Woodland school. Along with her inspiration, she was also passionate about the energy program and taking students to Washington D.C. In her spare time Darlene created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens that fed so many family and friends. Bowling, skiing, photography, and attending sports games filled the winter months. In the spring Darlene and Phil visited their second home in Nokomis, Florida, with their door open to family and friends. Darlene was a member of the Biddeford Congregational Church, American Legion Post 15 American Legion, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Darlene leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Philip, along with son, Troy, of Caribou, and grandchildren, Cullin and Araya, who were the spark of her life and whom she truly enjoyed watching grow into delightful young adults. She is also survived by a sister, Deidre Donovan and her husband Mike of Biddeford.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 6p.m. until 8p.m. at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11a.m. at the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Troy Heald officiating.
