Dale Holmes

December 1, 1934 — February 24, 2022

CARIBOU and LEXINGTON, TN - Dale O. Holmes. 87, passed away peacefully at Briarwood Community Living Center in Lexington, Tennessee on February 24, 2022 with his family by his side. Dale was born December 1, 1934, in Caribou, ME, to Russell and Velma (Dyer) Holmes.

He was a graduate of Caribou High School in 1953 and married the love of his life Phyllis (Lord) Holmes on June 29, 1957. Together they raised five children, Steven, Pamela, Kathy, Jerry and Nancy.

Dale worked for Guimond Farms as a route supervisor, and assistant manager. He was an avid potato farmer with his son Jerry and started the Village Cobbler Shoe Repair where he and his son Steven sold and repaired shoes for many years.

He spent many winters in Lexington, Tennessee where his daughter Nancy lived after retiring. His passion was growing vegetables in his truck garden both in Maine and later as a hobby in Tennessee. He raised many vegetables for the Maine Farm Share Program for Senior citizens, an occupation he dearly loved.

He was a member of Caribou United Baptist Church for over 50 years where he  helped others establish the bus ministry, taught Sunday School, led a youth group for over ten years, and was County Youth Fellowship leader for as many years. He had a heart for youth.

Dale is survived by his wife Phyllis, a son Jerry (Jennifer) Holmes of Limestone, ME, Kathy (Bill) DeRouchey of Cheyenne WY, Nancy Pollard of Lexington TN, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, two brothers Donald of Caribou, ME, and Floyd of Colorado Springs, CO.

In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by two children, Steven and Pamela, two brothers Clifford and Merlin, one sister Maxine.

A Memorial service will be held at Caribou United Baptist Church, 74 High Street, Caribou on June 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
