Caribou-Clare Rosemond (Crichton) Hitchcock, 63, beloved wife of Alan Edward Hitchcock passed away peacefully at her home in Caribou with her family at her side on January 13, 2014 after a brief but final bout with cancer. She had been a 25 year cancer survivor. Clare was born in Presque Isle March 23, 1950 the daughter of Philip and Angela (Donahue) Crichton . She grew up and attended schools in Mars Hill, graduating from Central Aroostook High School in 1968. She attended the University of Maine at Orono and Portland, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1972. Clare became a Registered Nurse in June of 1972 and began her nursing career at The Aroostook Medical Center (AR Gould) in Presque Isle, where she worked for over twenty years including positions as Head Nurse on Medical Floor and as a Nursing Supervisor. In 1992 she began working for the Veterans Administration at the Caribou VA Clinic as a Staff Nurse where she worked until her retirement in 2010. Clare especially enjoyed working with the many veterans she encountered during her career with the VA. Clare’s greatest love was her extended family. She greatly enjoyed family get-togethers and relished every occasion to visit with family and friends. Clare was very proud of her Scottish and Irish heritage and was very pleased to attend the Crichton Clan Reunion in southern Maine in 2011. During her retirement she enjoyed travelling with her husband on various trips for business and pleasure. Clare was a regular communicant of the Holy Rosary Church of the Parish of the Precious Blood in Caribou, and had served as a Eucharistic Minister. Clare married Alan Edward Hitchcock on August 11, 1973 at St. Joseph’s church in Mars Hill. They lived their entire marriage on the Hitchcock family farm on Green Ridge in Caribou, where they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in the summer of 2013. She is survived by her husband, Alan of Caribou ;son Eric Robert Hitchcock of Presque Isle ;daughter Jennifer Lynn Grant and husband Darek of Augusta; daughter Allison Clare Pollock and husband Mark of Weymouth, MA; son Brian Alan Hitchcock of Caribou; sister Mary Crichton of Brunswick; brother Stephen Crichton of Hampden ;brother Peter Crichton and wife Jennifer of Scarborough; sister Angela Delong and husband Kris of Bridgewater; granddaughter Libby Violet Grant and grandson Callan Ross Grant both of Augusta; grandson True Henry Pollock of Weymouth, MA.; brother- in-law Elias Karter of Osprey, FL and Phippsburg ; brother-in-law John Hitchcock and wife Nadean of Lake City, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; infant son Gregory Michael Hitchcock; and sister Ann Karter. She also leaves behind a large number of friends and former co-workers. Friends may visit with the family 6-8pm Thursday at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir St Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am Friday January 17, 2014 from the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Green Ridge Cemetery in the spring. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in Clare’s memory.
