Caribou

Christine Elizabeth Smith, 61, went home to be with the Lord March 5th, 2025. She was born in Caribou on December 17, 1963, the daughter of the late Norman and Mary (McNeal) Clevette. Christine was a graduate of Caribou High School and spent her working career as a CNA/Medical Technician at Caribou Nursing Home, as well as Borderview in Van Buren. Chris loved her work and the residents that she had the privilege to care for over the years. She married Hollis Mark Smith in 1985 and together they raised two daughters.

Christine had a love for animals of all kinds - often taking in the most misfit strays to give a home to and love on. Chris’s pride and joy was her family and the time that they spent together. She never wanted to miss an event that her children or grandchildren were involved in. Whether it was an ice show, dance recital, pageant, soccer or softball game, track or swim meet, or just simply lounging by the pool watching everyone play – she never wanted to miss a moment to show up for the ones she loved. Chris had a heart of gold and would go out of her way to help anyone if she possibly could. More than anything though she loved being a grandmother or as her oldest grand- daughter called her “Debbie”. She will be missed for her thoughtfulness, unconditional love, and cozy holidays that she went above and beyond to make special.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Caribou, are two daughters, Kathryn (Katie) Griffin and husband Lee of Presque Isle, and Elizabeth (Beth) Johndro and husband Craig of Fort Fairfield, two brothers, Michael Clevette and wife Rita of Florida, and Mark Clevette and wife Amy of Warren, one sister, Cathy Bell and husband David of Florida, her beloved grandchildren, Victoria Johndro, Ellie, Malachi and Finley Griffin, several nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held at a later date.
