Charlene N Martin

April 25, 1934 — December 17, 2022

CARIBOU - Charlene “Peg” Martin, 88, born April 1934 in Caribou, broke free from the pains of this world on December 17, 2022, and now walks with Jesus and her loved ones gone before her, including her parents, Joseph and Willa (Chapman) Gagnon and step-father Edward McLaughlin, sisters, Fran Belanger and Leenie Fournier of CT, brother, Fred Gagnon of ME, her beloved son, Gaylen and her sweet great-grandson, Ethan.

By six children, she was called, "Mom", "Mum" and "Momma:"  Karen Smith of Avon, NY, David Martin and wife Jean of St. Agatha, Tammy Jalbert and partner Larry Poulin of Wiscasset, Thomas Martin and fiancé Lisa Quist of Caribou, and Robin Cooper and husband Marty of Caribou.

By 13 grandchildren she was called, "Gram" or "Grammy:"  Kim Baszto, Bobbi Jo Griffin, Christina Jalbert, Matthew Martin, Jamie Corrigan, Greg Martin, Cody Martin, Kurt Walden, Lucas Cooper, Joshua Cooper, McKenzie Cooper, Josh Quist and Carter Quist.

By 14 great-grandchildren she was called "Great-Grammy," and she is survived by two sisters, Joyce Byram and Wilma Gentile both of CT.

Charlene was a Caribou High School graduate. She married Leo Martin and together they shared 56 years of marriage.  Charlene prided herself as a Potato Farmer's wife and a mother, working from before dawn until bedtime to provide comfort and care to all those she loved and those who worked on the farm.  She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.  Charlene also took great pride in her years at Shop 'n Save, always serving up a beautiful smile to customers and many laughs for her co-workers.  She had many, many friends from her younger years of snowmobiling and camping in the Allagash.  She loved a roasted red hot dog and songs around the campfire.  Many lobster feeds and laughs were shared among family & friends.  She traveled across the country to visit her children and made several trips with friends including her jumps across the border to the casino with her sister and friends.  She leaves many good memories and her "shoulder to cry on" will be sorely missed by many.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on December 30, 2022 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 10AM until time of services.
