Caribou – John Steven Barnes, 68, died unexpectedly February 4, 2019 at his Caribou residence following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Presque Isle, August 30, 1950, the son of the late Otis and Anna (Cumming) Barnes. John was a graduate of Fort Fairfield high school, received his BS Degree in Management from Ricker College and served with the US Navy during Vietnam. He retired from the Caribou School Department, serving as the Chief Boiler Operator for many years. He married Lois Doody June 22, 1974. John was an avid golfer and truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at gatherings at his home. He was a member of Caribou Lodge #170 A.F. & A.M., as well as the Anah Temple Shrine. Surviving in addition to his wife Lois of Caribou, are three brothers, Dale Barnes and wife Jan of Deatsville, Alabama, Alan Barnes of Washburn and Neil Barnes of Presque Isle; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Louise Adams of Caribou, Larry Doody and Todd and Beth Doody all of Washburn, several nieces and nephews and his special feline companion Jackson. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 12:00 noon until time of services. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Ron Rosser officiating. Interment will be at the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery.
