Avis Pearl (Wright) Thompson

November 1, 1921 — June 30, 2011

CARIBOU - Avis Pearl (Wright) Thompson, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday June 30, 2011 while surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Avis was born in Caribou on November 1, 1921 the daughter of Harry P. Wright and Jennie A. (Thompson) Wright. She lived in Caribou all of her life and was educated in the Caribou School system, graduating from Caribou High School with the Class of 1940. In her youth, Avis enjoyed winter sports and took home several medals and ribbons for skiing and skating. On April 10, 1941 she married Olin L. Thompson and moved with him to his family’s potato farm on the Madawaska Road. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful sons. She was devoted to her family always. Her heart was broken when her beloved brother, Philip E. Wright, was killed in action during World War II in Germany; it was a loss that she mourned until her death. Avis helped out with the bookkeeping and cooking that was required to operate the farm while also caring for her husband’s parents in their old age. Avis was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church where she served on the Memorial Committee, was a member of the Edith and Ethyl Circle, participated in the Golden Years group activities and sang in the Living Christmas Tree. Avis is sadly missed and fondly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law Dana L. & Penny G. Thompson and Roger P. & Beatrice A. Thompson all of Caribou; her grandson, Shannon C. Thompson of Auburn; her granddaughter, Idella Pearl Thompson of Caribou.; her sister-in-law Pauline (Westman) Wright of Zephyrhills, Florida; many nephews, nieces, cousins, close friends and her church family. Avis was predeceased by her parents Harry P. and Jennie Wright, her husband’s parents, Fred H. and Idella M. Thompson, her brothers Philip E. Wright and Harry P. “Sonny” Wright Jr., her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Kelley) Wright, her husband Olin in 1993 and her son Olin, Jr. in 2008. The family wishes to thank all of Avis’ caregivers for their kind, compassionate, and professional care during her illness with special appreciation to Dr. Carl Flynn for his devotion, concern and his level of respectful, complete and careful treatment. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street in Caribou 6-9 pm Tuesday and from 12 noon Wednesday July 6 2011 at the Caribou United Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm with Rev.
