Caribou-Avis J. Woods, 84, wife of the late Hazen Woods, died August 1, 2014 at Caribou. She was born in Caribou, January 23, 1930 the daughter of the late Marquis and Laura (Bragdon) Davenport. Mrs. Woods attended the Caribou schools and was employed at Potato Service for a number of years as well as the Aroostook County Action Program as a job training instructor. She was a very active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was involved in numerous committees and church groups as well as serving on the Board of Deacons for many years. Avis was also a member of the Lister Knowlton post 9389 VFW and the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Cary Medical Center Seniority program and served as a volunteer at Cary for a number of years. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd Woods and his wife Linda of Columbia, S.C., and Gregory Woods of Westbrook. Two daughters, Grace Dwyer of Ellsworth and Gena Woods of Caribou. Five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Woods was predeceased by her husband, Hazen in 1992. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 6-8pm Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday August 6, 2014 from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Heald officiating. Interment will be in the New Sweden Cemetery. Following the services all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the church dining hall. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Woods may do so though Baptist Park in Mapleton or the Ronald McDonald House.
