Audrey Hilda Hafford

August 20, 1931 — June 30, 2012

Caribou-Audrey Hilda Hafford, 80 was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, June 30, 2012 at Caribou surrounded by those she loved following a brief illness. She was born in Allagash August 20, 1931 the daughter of the late Samuel Riley and Eunice Jane (Moir) Hafford. Mrs. Hafford was a graduate of Fort Kent High School as well as being a 1952 graduate of the Fort Kent Normal School. In 1969, she received her BS degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. She taught in the Allagash school for five years and served as assistant principal at Kenduskeag Elementary School. In 1963, she moved to Caribou where she taught in the Limestone School System at Loring Air Force Base, retiring in 1986. Mrs. Hafford was a member of the Caribou United Baptist Church and was also a lifetime member of the National Teachers Association. In 1971, she was honored as one of the “Leaders of American Elementary and Secondary Education”. Mrs. Hafford was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Joyce Grass and her former husband Arnold Hafford. She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Cushman and husband Caldon of Caribou and Carolyn Hall and her husband Les of Windham. Two sons, Stanley Hafford of Presque Isle and Nolan Hafford of Caribou. Her brother Samuel Doyle Hafford of North Carolina. The family will also cherish those special moments she shared with her six grandchildren, Dr. Joy Maria Cushman and her husband Dr. Michael Amey, of Washington, D.C., Naomi Rustikova and her husband Alexandr of South Carolina, Matthew Cushman and his wife Crystal of Florida, John Costello and his wife Tina of Limerick, MSGT Robert Costello and his wife Michelle of Colorado and Michael Costello of Limerick. And nine great grandchildren. Several nephews. A graveside service will be held 3:00pm Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. John Kiehn, officiating. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the professional and caring nurses and staff of the ICU at Cary Medical Center.
