Arthur J. Fortin Sr.

February 21, 1936 — May 11, 2012

Arthur J. Fortin Sr., 76, passed away peacefully, May 11, 2012 at Caribou. He was born at Blue River, Quebec, Canada, January 21, 1936, the son of Edmond and Azilda (Berube) Fortin. He and his family moved to the United States in 1953. God needed a very special man to fill a heavenly void and he saw that Arthur was very ill and needed a long rest so God called him home to Heaven. Holding his hands, his loving family released him into the loving arms of our Lord, knowing they would all be together again and next time they met each other, it would be for eternity. Arthur and his loving wife, the former Betty Ann Patterson-Everett of Caribou, were united in marriage on October 31, 1961, they celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary in 2011. Since they were married on Halloween, Arthur enjoyed telling everyone that he got the “Trick” and his wife, Betty got the “Treat”. In his younger days, Arthur worked with his father, clearing land and installing fences along highways throughout the state. Later in life, he worked for many years in the construction business, having worked for Brescia Construction and Johnston’s Paving as well as working for Trombley Industries. Arthur enjoyed life and found pleasure in doing some of the simple things, like picking fiddleheads, watching his grandchildren play sports or just spending time in the great outdoors enjoying nature’s many wonders. He always looked forward to his brother-in-law, Ken Smart coming to Caribou on vacation, and the two of them along with his other brother-in-law, Ronnie Rafford would spend hours riding around looking for wildlife. One of his best joys came last year when he spent everyday working side by side with his son-in-law Ernie Currie, his granddaughter Casey and her fiancé Matt building their dream home. His families greatest joy was listening to Arthur play his guitar and singing to them. Arthur’s greatest joy of all was just spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and the rest of this family, because they were his whole life. Arthur is survived by his wife Betty Ann of Caribou; his daughter Betty Jean and her husband Ernie Currie of Caribou; his son Arthur J. Fortin Jr. of Caribou; a daughter Lynn Fortin and her companion Wayne Smith of Limestone; his beloved grandchildren Casey Currie and her fiancé Matt Beaulieu, Stephanie Currie, Josh Fortin, David Smith and Alicia Fortin; his sisters Yolanda Lavoie of MA and Theresa and Bernard Stubbs of Caribou; his brothers Louis and Jeannine of Caribou and Simon of Van Buren; his sisters and brother-in-laws Sue Smart, Jenny and Ronnie Rafford, Bud and Carol Everett, Alexina Fortin, Shirley Fortin all of Caribou and Bernadette Fortin of Van Buren. Arthur will be greatly missed by his special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and his very loving and caring friend Adeline Beaulieu. He was predeceased by his parents his brothers Claude and Ludger; his sisters Jane Devost, Simone Green and Lucy Levesque; his daughter-in-law Charlotte Fortin; his father and mother-in-law Thomas and Olive Everett; his brother-in-laws Ken Smart, Jesse Lavoie, Rudolph Levesque and Bill Green and his nephews Ricky Fortin, Gil Lavoie, Dale Green and Ronald Fortin.
