CARIBOU - Dr. Ann Y. Lin, 77, died October 25, 2022 in Bangor following a short illness. She was born in Taipei, Taiwan, September 25, 1945 the daughter of Xin-Ju Yeh and Qiong-Ying Chen Yeh.
Dr. Lin was valedictorian of her medical school class at the China Medical College in Taichung, Taiwan. She then interned at the Chinese Naval General Hospital, then did Ophthalmology Residency at the National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, followed by a General Practice Residency at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Her Glaucoma Fellowship was done at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where she served as an Assistant Professor. Prior to moving to Maine, Dr. Lin joined the attending staff at Albany Medical Center Hospital, The Children’s Hospital and the Albany VA Medical Center as an Ophthalmologist. Dr. Lin was board-certified and was a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lin and her daughter, Amy, moved to Caribou to join her husband Dr. Ryan Lin, a Pathologist at Cary Medical Center. She established her office in Caribou in 1990 in addition to becoming a member of the medical staff at Cary Medical Center, Northern Maine Medical Center and Calais Regional Hospital. When Dr. Lin retired in 2015, the medical staff at Cary Medical Center voted unanimously to appoint her to the Honorary Medical Staff.
Adjacent to her medical responsibilities, Ann was also a proactive member in her local community, including the Kiwanis of Caribou group where she served as their secretary for many years.
Her curiosity also involved lots of reading, from fiction to nonfiction that spanned a diverse range of genres and subject matter, in addition to studying different languages, specifically Spanish, learning crafts and being an exercise buff. Though she enjoyed international travel, she loved Maine—especially her beloved town of Caribou.
Dr. Lin is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Dr. Ryan Lin of Caribou, and their daughter, Dr. Amy Lin and husband Nate Burgos of Chicago, IL. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Farn-Shoung Yeh.
