CARIBOU - Anita Belanger, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep September 14, 2014 while in the wonderful care of the staff at Borderview Nursing Home in Van Buren. Anita was born in Lille September 27, 1919 the daughter of the late Henry and Leah Tardif. As a child she and her family lived in Van Buren and North Caribou, and she graduated from Caribou High School in 1937. Anita married Oscar Belanger October 16, 1939 and together they raised a family of 11 children. She lived a long and faith filled life as a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella. Anita worked outside the home while raising her family. She was always home to send her children off to school, having just arrived home from working the night shift at Birdseye and later Potato Service. Mrs. Belanger was predeceased by her husband Oscar in 1983, her daughter Sylvia Beaulieu in 2012, as well as several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Gerard Belanger and wife Patricia of Howland, Adrien Belanger and wife Helen of Goodlettsville, TN, Henrietta Belanger-Feldman of Allentown, PA, Leland Belanger and his wife Ann of Atlanta, GA, Cecile Belanger-Sanders of WA, Daniel Belanger and wife Peggy of Kenduskeag, Donna Caruso and husband Peter of Dover-Foxcroft, Francis Belanger, Lou Willey and husband Ron all of Caribou, Janet Morrow and husband Dan of Whitman, MA, Sylvia’s husband Lee Beaulieu of Woodland, a sister-in-law Blanche Murphy of Bangor, 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 7-9pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the New Holy Rosary Cemetery. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued time of fellowship and refreshments at the parish center. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Belanger may do so through the Holy Rosary Catholic Church fuel fund.
