STOCKHOLM – Ada Pearl Plourde, 85, died December 15, 2021 at Caribou following a period of declining health. She was born in Caribou, March 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Vyron and Kathleen (McInnis) Chapman Sr. She was a graduate of Caribou High School, attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing for 1 year following high school, then later finished her career goal by graduating from Northern Maine Technical College in 1992 as a Licensed Practical nurse, after raising her 4 children. She married Gregory Plourde on November 4, 1954. Ada was an LPN at Cary Medical Center for a number of years and at L’Acadie in Van Buren , and did some private care nursing for a few people at their homes before she retired. In addition, she also worked at Anderson’s store in Stockholm for many years when she was raising her family, in addition to helping her husband, Greg on the family potato farm. Ada was an active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Stockholm. She was a member of the Stockholm and New Sweden Women’s Homemakers Extension for over 60 years, a member of the Stockholm PTA, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Women for the Survival of Agriculture group. Ada will be fondly remembered for her cooking skills and made many Swedish tea rings and buckets of spritz cookies for many occasions. She made thousands of homemade, glazed donuts for the family and Stockholm Winter Carnivals for many years, that was enjoyed by many people. Ada also was an avid reader as a pastime. She will be remembered for the kindness she showed to others, her generosity, and being a hard-worker at any job she did , whether on the farm or other competitive employment outside her home.
Surviving in addition to her husband of over 67 years, Greg, of Stockholm are her children, Colleen Newbegin and husband Jeffrey of Derby, VT, Donna Campbell and husband Tom of Stockholm, and Elaine Haines and husband Neal of Caribou. Her grandchildren, Jesse and Matthew Plourde, John and Mark Newbegin, and Jack Campbell, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Plourde of Rainier, OR, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ada was predeceased by a son, Gregory “Bud” Plourde, Jr. Memorial services will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
