CARIBOU – Bertha “Betty” Branscom, 86, died November 11, 2023 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. She was born in Woodland, June 5, 1937 the daughter of the late Delbert and Hattie Marie (Hardacker) Sutherland. She graduated from Caribou High School, and was employed by J.C. Penney for over 30 years in the shoe department. On October 29, 1955 she married Edward Branscom and together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage before his death in 2004. Betty was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she was very active in the church community. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, cooking, doing genealogy research, and even organized a Sutherland Family Cookbook. Above all she loved to spend time with her family and organized several Sutherland Family Reunions. She is survived by her three sons, Scott E. Branscom and wife Jennifer of Caribou, John M. Branscom and wife Cindy of Hallowell, and Bert P. Branscom and wife Michelle of Cross Lake, three siblings, Willis Sutherland of Caribou, Judith Greenier of Cross Lake, and Russell Sutherland of Florida, her grandchildren, Heather Branscom Botterill, Steven Branscom, Ryan Branscom, Austin Branscom and Nicole Sayers, two great-grandchildren, Maisie and Nolan Sayers. Betty will also be greatly missed by her best friend Ethel Moody. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Mockler Funeral Home from 12PM until time of services which will be held at 1PM with Pastor Rich Rego officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edward and Betty Branscom Memorial Fund at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in the care of the Board of Trustees, or to the Aroostook House of Comfort.
