Perham – Rodney Kent Wardwell, Sr., 82, died October 10, 2019. Rodney was born in Perham February 21, 1937, the son of the late Ollie and Lillian (Helstrom) Wardwell. He attended the Perham and Washburn schools and on February 27, 1960 he married Sylvia Nelson. Rod was an automotive mechanic for several area garages including Aroostook Motors, Peterson’s Garage and Grants Dairy. His lifelong passion was repairing anything mechanical. He was an avid outdoorsman and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends hunting and fishing. As an avid snowmobile rider for over 40 years, he was a long-time member of the Sno-Drifters Snowmobile Club. He became an ATV enthusiast and enjoyed his daily trips to the family camp near their home. He was a member of the Washburn ATV club. Rod loved to ride the Calvin Wardwell Memorial Trail to Salmon Lake where he could see his birth place and reminisce about walking as a child to his favorite fishing spot at the lake. Surviving in addition to his wife of over 59 years, Sylvia of Perham, are his two sons and daughters-in-laws, Rodney Jr. and Kim Wardwell, and Joel and Kelly Wardwell, all of Woodland, seven grandchildren, Jessie, Jessica, Jimmy, Sarah, Danielle, Kristen, and Erin, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Wardwell was predeceased by three brothers Erben, Calvin and Darrell, four sisters, Gertrude True, Arlene Rideout, Avis Brown and Marilyn Chipman. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, Monday, October 14, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the time of services, which will be held at 1 pm from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Hood officiating. Following the services all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Caribou Assembly of God activity center. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Perham.
